Poker is a card game where players compete for money or chips contributed by others (the pot). The winner of each deal (or betting round) wins the entire pot.<\/p>\n
A standard poker hand consists of one high card and two low cards, or “pairs”. The highest pair wins.<\/p>\n
If the high cards are identical, the ties are broken by the highest unmatched cards or secondary pairs (in a Full House [a five-card hand made up of three of a kind and a pair]).<\/p>\n
There are many different variations of poker, but most games use a single deck of 52 cards. The players’ hands are dealt in a series of rounds with antes and blinds, and a final showdown takes place.<\/p>\n
During each of these rounds, a player must place in the pot the number of chips for which that player is entitled to by the rules of the specific poker variant. In addition, the player may also make an ante bet before each round of betting.<\/p>\n
Some variations of the game include wild cards, which can be used to break ties or to form a winning hand. In these cases, the highest possible hand is called a “wild” or “flush.”<\/p>\n
