Poker is a card game played between two or more people with a common deck of cards. The players place chips (representing money) into the middle of the table, called the pot. The player with the highest hand wins all the chips in the pot.<\/p>\n
Each player is dealt two cards, and then aims to make the best 5-card “hand” using their own cards and the community cards. The best hands are pairs, straights, flushes and full houses. If a player does not have one of these hands, they must bet – and then all other players can call or raise the bet.<\/p>\n
Players take turns clockwise around the table revealing their hand. Some players choose not to reveal their hand, but this means that they can no longer compete for the pot.<\/p>\n
Writing about Poker can be tricky if you’re not passionate about the topic. You need to understand the game well \u2013 its various variants, etiquette, sorts of players and so on. It’s also important to have good descriptive skills, so you can paint pictures in the reader’s head. This will make the story much more interesting.<\/p>\n
A great way to make your stories about Poker more exciting is to include anecdotes. These can be about your own experiences playing the game, or stories you’ve heard from others. Another great idea is to write about your opponent’s tells \u2013 these are their unconscious habits that reveal information about their hand.
